Team Tommy
On June 5th, 2022 Officers from the East Providence Police Department Special Response Team will be running the Newport Rhode Island Ten Miler Race in full tactical gear in order to raise awareness of childhood cancer, and to help raise funds for Cops for Kids with Cancer. This organization has done tremendous work in the past, including donating to children previously sponsored by members of this department, and has recently agreed to a generous donation to a great young man who the department again has worked to sponsor, 14-year old Thomas “Tommy” Godbout.
Thomas, along with his loving family; his parent Peter and Jill, and his siblings Jack, Elise, and Penelope are local residents of Rhode Island. Thomas is currently battling his second diagnoses of Leukemia, but despite his current diagnosis, Thomas remains optimistic, energetic, and embraces his family, friends, school, and his love of hockey. Even with his struggles and less than desirable school conditions due to his health and not being able to attend in-person classes, Thomas still manages to get fantastic grades, maintain his status as an honor student, and even qualifies for Advanced Placement classes. Thomas is an avid hockey player, however has missed several seasons due to his cancer relapse but continues to actively stay involved in the sport he loves the best he can. Soon, Thomas, with his family by his side, will need to undergo extensive treatment and surgery that will confine him to a hospital for an extended period of time. Our hope is that our efforts will aid Thomas and his family, and help support them during Thomas’s treatment and recovery.

We wish Thomas nothing but the best and hope that our efforts can put a smile on Thomas and his family’s face, along with other children and their families who have, or may have to endure such turbulent times.
