WORCESTER — Cops for Kids with Cancer (CFKWC) and the UMass Chan Medical School Police Department are proud to stand behind 13-year-old Aubrey Boucher and her family as they battle cancer.
Cops for Kids with Cancer Board Member Sal Mirabella, Jr., visited the UMass Chan Medical School Police Department in Worcester and Aubrey’s family last week to deliver a check for $5,500.
The $5,500 donation from CFKWC is intended to help ease some of that financial pressure and allow Aubrey’s family to concentrate on what matters most: her health, treatment, recovery, and well-being.
Aubrey was diagnosed earlier this year with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, an she faces both inpatient and outpatient treatment, repeated hospitalizations, and more.
She lives at home with her mom, Rianne Cooper, and her father, Wayne Boucher, and is also supported by an older brother. The family was able to visit the UMass Chan Medical School Police station.
CFKWC is a nonprofit organization that works with local law enforcement agencies to provide funds to families across New England who have children battling cancer.
While many organizations support cancer research, CFKWC funds are not designated for any specific purpose. Families are welcome to use the funds to defray medical expenses or to help with the day-to-day costs that lengthy hospital stays and frequent visits incur.
Cops for Kids with Cancer remains committed to supporting children battling cancer and other serious illnesses and providing assistance to families when they need it most. The organization understands that a child’s illness affects the entire family, and its mission is to provide financial assistance, hope, and relief during some of the most challenging moments a family can face. The organization is grateful to the UMass Chan Medical School Police Department for welcoming CFKWC and helping bring attention to Aubrey and her family.
Additionally, Fitchburg Police made a $2,500 donation to CFKWC as a result of a softball tournament the department held to raise funds. Several members of the department attended this disbursement to see where the money was going.
“Aubrey is a fantastic young teenager, whose determination and positivity shows through her infectious smile as she battles week in and week out,” said Sal Mirabella, Jr. “This disbursement was a full-circle moment since Fitchburg Police also donated money to our organization. Fitchburg officers were able to see where the money they raised goes, and the Boucher family was able to see how many people care about Aubrey and all the other kids we help that are battling cancer.”
